The Markle Residence

The Markle Residence is a Salvation Army high-rise dwelling program for women: business, professional, graduate and undergraduate college students. The accommodations provided are not subject to rent control and rent stabilization laws. Entrance requirements for residents are limited to women 18 to 35 years of age. Residents must be able to manage the cafeteria style dining room and walk as many as 16 flights of steps (if elevators are not working), and to live independently by caring for themselves without need of medical or other personal services. The staff of The Markle Residence will provide comfortable living in a caring Christian atmosphere of respect and dignity.

This is a co-educational, non-profit facility with religious affiliations, which accepts guests of all faiths. Like the Gershwin, it is located between Greenwich Village and the Broadway Theater District. It is famous for its home-baked breakfast breads and muffins.
